Frequently Asked Questions

1. SMF vs. phpBB? I chose SMF as I have experience running both boards elsewhere, and this appears to have been the more stable of the two, in my experience. phpBB is good too, but you never know what the future will hold.

2. Why did you move away from an email based group? The majority of problems were caused by emails being sent, received, bouncing, and the last host having no "digest" feature. As a result, the majority of members did not download each message to their pc, and quite a few read them in webmail anyway.

3. Can I post images? Yes. If you have a Fotopic, Flickr etc. account, please post a url if you can upload the picture there. To post an attachment, first click "New Topic" as usual, then click "Additional options", then use the "browse" button to find the file on your hard drive. The maximum file size (128000 KB) has been adjusted to cater for reasonable sized pictures and files, but if you get a "file too large" please alert the administrator.

4. What file types can I post? Pictures should be in JPG, GIF or PNG format. You cannot post executables or similar to the board. This helps protect the board for us all. The full list of Allowed file types is txt, doc, pdf, jpg, gif, mpg, png, rtf, xls, jpeg
Maximum attachment size allowed: 128000 KB, per post: 2

5. What's the difference between a moderator and an Administrator? Moderators can  carry out some basic tasks i.e. edit unsuitable posts, but only the Administrator can do approve new logins etc. These titles are chosen by SMF.

6. When I log in, I get an error saying "An Error Has Occurred!/ You will have to wait about 5 seconds to login again, sorry." Click on "Home" on the left hand side - problem fixed! There is a five-second gap set between two successful concurrent logins set by default within SMF.

7. Do you host your own? No. The forum is operated by Suzy Scott using SMF (Simple Machines Forum), hosted on a Linux Red Hat box operated by Evohosting. This forum does not feature any advertising, and as a result is paid for entirely by Suzy herself.
